This is a collection of terms that are used in describing Decktet games. Some of these terms (like flush and straight) are borrowed from standard parlance. Others (like type and bharg set) are specific to the Decktet.

  • Aces: the lowest ranked cards in the deck; there are six Aces, one of each suit; Aces have no mark
  • basic deck: the original, 36-card configuration of the Decktet with Aces, number ranks, and Crowns
  • bharg set: a collection of cards with exactly one of each suit
  • Court: court.png; an extended deck rank of cards, usually ordered between Pawns and Crowns; there are four Courts, each with three suits
  • Crown: crown.png; the highest ranked cards in the deck; there are six Crowns, one of each suit
  • the Decktet: a 45-card pack of cards comprised of the basic deck and the nine extended deck cards.
  • extended deck: the basic deck plus some or all of the Pawns, Courts, and the Excuse
  • events: one of the three marks, distinguished by a filled-in dot symbol
  • the Excuse: an extended deck card that has no rank, no suits, and no mark
  • flush: a collection of cards that all share a suit
  • locations: one of the three marks, a divided dot symbol
  • marks: in addition to ranks and suits, most cards have one or more mark: personalities are depicted as facecards and (in many decks) a star symbol facecard.png, locations have a divided dot location.png, and events have a filled-in dot event.png
  • Pawn: pawn.png; an extended deck rank of cards, usually ordered between 9s and Courts; there are four Pawns, each with three suits
  • personalities: the face cards of the deck, illustrated with two faces of the same figure; one of the three marks; distinguished in some decks by a four-pointed starbust
  • rank: the ordering of cards from low to high: Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, crown.png; if the extended deck cards are used, the usual ordering is …9, pawn.png, court.png, crown.png.
  • straight: a collection of cards in rank order; sometimes called a run
  • straight flush: a collection of cards in rank order that all share a suit
  • suit: there are six suits in the Decktet: moons, sun, waves, leaves, wyrms, and knots
  • turtle butt: a collection of cards with one or more of each suit
  • type: for narrative purposes, the marks and cards of the Decktet can be distinguished into four interpretive types: Aces, events, locations, and personalities
