Dueling Runes

I've posted the preliminary rules for a game I'm working on based on the concept from "Waving Hands" the classic game of wizard duels.

I've basically simplified the spell system so spell effects are easy to remember, and after a few games players shouldn't even need the small 3x3 table of spells.

I've tired to keep the spells that would make for nice interaction between players, with a balanced number of offensive and defensive spells. Also, offensive spells can usually be countered in different ways, so players have to choose when and how to attack and how to best defend against the possible attacks of their opponents.

Any feedback is welcomed, and feel free to post commnts here or in the game's page.

If I understand the rules correctly: I can use any Power Runes in my spell sequence; for example, I can use a two suns that are deeper in my spell sequence even though I did not play any spells last turn. I only need to declare which Runes I'm using when I cast the spell. So if my opponent casts Shield with his Moon, I can cast Fireball with my Wyrm (provided I have a Sun anywhere in my sequence); if he cases Resist Fire, I can just hit him instead.

If I play a card with both a Wyrm and a Knot on it, can I use the same power runes for each of the spells?

If I cast Haste, can I use Activation Runes on both of the cards I play? or only on the top one?

What happens if I cast Haste and (while it's in effect) cast it again? (It seems like there are several options: I can't cast a spell that already in effect. Only the longer of the two spells has any effect. The two spells add together.)

I'll probably come up with more questions when I get a chance to play this. If I can't talk my usual opponent into a game, I'll try solitaire.

Hi,

I gave the game a try 2 players and small things came up that I have to clarify in the rules :D

You can indeed use any power runes in your spell sequence, but be aware that the when you place the fifth card the oldest one is removed and can't be used that turn.

You can activate two spells at the same time but each spell needs to use different energy runes, so a rune can only be used to power one spell each turn (I think this was on the rules but I'll try to make it clearer).

I have to explain haste better in the rules (will do so in a moment). Each turn a wizard is under the effect of the spell he gets to play two cards in sequence. The first one is solved for him alone (or other wizards that are under their own haste spell). The second one is solved with everyone else. So, it's a bit like getting an extra turn in between normal turns. So yes, you can activate spells with any or both cards in order.

Right now I'm playing that casting a spell that is already in effect extends the effect. Maybe it'd be better to either cancel the old one or the new one… Not sure about it.

Thanks for coming up with the questions :)
